HOME LOAN IN THE COMMUNITY

We started as a small local business, and we still feel that it's our responsibility to give back to the community that we call home. Home Loan takes strides to support organizations that are making our neighborhoods better places to live and work. These are just a few of the organizations that Home Loan supports by donating both funds and time.

Rhode Island Foundation

The Rhode Island Foundation works to build a better Rhode Island as a philanthropic resource for people, communities, organizations and programs. The foundation is devoted to creating a better community by evaluating local issues and making strategic grants, promoting and building effective philanthropy and building the strengths and capacity of the nonprofit sector.

Home Loan has established two scholarship funds at the Foundation. Through these scholarships, deserving students are provided critical educational opportunities.

The Urban League of Rhode Island

The Urban League of RI is a community based, non-profit organization. Its mission is the elimination of racial discrimination, and segregation in the state, and the achievement of parity for Blacks, other minorities, and the poor in every phase of American life. The Urban League implements its mission through advocacy, program service delivery, bridge building among the races, and research

Manton Avenue Project

The Manton Avenue Project works with children living in Providence's Olneyville neighborhood. The project teams up kids with adult theater artists and together they create original theater. The vast majority of plays are written by kids and acted and directed by adults.

St. Jude Children's Research Hopsital

St. Jude is devoted to researching disease to save more children's lives. In fact, they accept and treat patients even if they have no health insurance, and patients never pay more than their insurance covers.

To help the cause, Home Loan has helped raise over a half-million dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In addition, Home Loan made a sizable donation to help the partnership between St. Jude and Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin, Ireland to move pediatric hematology-oncology research forward.

The McAuley Corporation

Home Loan worked with the McAuley Corporation, a low-income, FHFB-approved housing developer, by providing significant financial assistance to build several homes in the Providence area. In addition, Home Loan bank staff prepared a grant for the corporation, on bank-paid time and using bank resources, requesting a $300,000 direct subsidy from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston to expand and refurbish the meal site and to rehabilitate 7 subsidized two- and three-bedroom apartments for very low-income residents.

Boys & Girls Club

Many kids need a safe, positive place to go after school lets out. The Boys & Girls Club of America provides programs and services so kids can learn, grow, and have fun. Home Loan supports multiple chapters of the Boys & Girls Club with financial support for activities, events, and programs. Home Loan's Chairman, John Murphy, was recently inducted into the Fox Point Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame.

The Horace and Reverend E. Naomi Craig Scholarship Fund

This fund is unique in that it enables gifted, low-income fifth, sixth or seventh grade students to attended independent or parochial school by supplying the needed monies. Home Loan supports this effort to provide quality education, and continues to donate funds for this cause.

RISE

The mission of RISE is to provide scholarships and mentoring to children of currently and formerly incarcerated parents in order to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty, crime and addiction that too often threatens them.

Brian Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Home Loan Investment Bank, served as the President of RISE until 2011.

Local Schools

Home Loan has provided financial support, clothing, furniture, transportation vehicles and other equipment to local schools, including: San Miguel School, West Bay Academy, Hope Highland School, McVinney School, and Edmund W. Flynn School.

Sophia Academy

Sophia Academy changes the lives of middle school girls from low income homes in Providence. Sophia Academy introduces girls to educational experiences that expand their worldview; encourage them to be active and informed citizens; and empower them to see the world through a social justice lens. By utilizing best practices in gender specific education, Sophia Academy fosters the academic, moral, cultural and social growth for their students.

The Assumption Food Pantry is located at 791 Potters Avenue in the West End of Providence. The Pantry has been serving neighbors in need since the late 1960s, when Sr. Angela Daniels and Fr. What started as a temporary solution to help those few families in need has evolved into a necessary resource for more than 44,000 individuals in the greater Providence area.
